Roku has two separate switches. Smart TV Experience controls ACR on what you watch. Personalized Ads controls ads tied to your account. Turning off one leaves the other on.1, 2

Turn it off
Do both on each Roku TV you own: the ACR choice only affects the TV you change it on.3

Checked against Roku Support (last updated 23 June 2026) and Roku's privacy policy (last updated 1 July 2026).1, 2
- Press Home on the Roku remote and choose Settings from the left-hand menu.1
- Select Privacy › Smart TV Experience.1
- Highlight Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) and press OK so the box is unticked.1Some Roku documents still call this Use info from TV inputs.3
- If Content Viewing Disclosure is ticked, untick it too.It lets Roku share which titles you request and watch with third parties to personalize ads or improve their products. To withdraw consent for particular titles, Roku says to email ContentViewingDisclosureOptOut@roku.com.2
You can also do this at my.roku.com: sign in, select Privacy Settings, then Smart TV Experience, and set it to NO.1 Roku says ACR is not on out of the box, and that data collected while it was on is kept.1

- Press Home, then go to Settings › Privacy.2Roku's other ad options, such as Sensitive ad content, are under Privacy › Advertising.6
- Turn off Personalized Ads, or tick Limit Ad Tracking if that's what your device shows.2, 4Signed in to your Roku account, you can also change Personalized Ads on Roku's website.2
- If your device offers it, reset the advertising identifiers.Roku says the old identifiers then stop being used for personalized ads on the device, and new ones are assigned.5

What each switch stops
From Roku's own notices.
Smart TV Experience off
Roku stops using ACR on what you watch through the antenna and connected devices, such as cable and satellite boxes and consoles. When on, ACR matches a fingerprint from a sample of screen pixels against Roku's catalog of shows, games and ads.1, 2, 3
It doesn't change personalized ads or ad measurement.3
