How to turn off ACR on an LG TV
LG's automatic content recognition only runs if you accepted its Viewing Information Agreement. LG says it is off by default and you can withdraw at any time.1
Checked 28 October 2026 against the sources. LG says menus and names may vary by model and region.2

- Press Settings on the remote, then open All Settings.2
- Go to Support › Privacy & Terms › User Agreements.2On sets from 2019 and earlier: Settings › All Settings › General, then About This TV.3
- Turn off Viewing Information. This is the agreement that enables ACR, and the technology behind LG's Live Plus program recommendations.1, 3
- Withdraw the others you don't want: Interest-Based Cross-Device Advertising, Voice Information and Who. Where. What?3Voice control needs Voice Information, which in turn needs the Viewing Information Agreement.3
After a software update, factory reset, or a region or account change, the TV may ask you to review the terms again.2 On that screen, Select All accepts every item at once,2 so tick only the ones you want.

From Consumer Reports' tests on new LG sets.3
- In All Settings › Support › Privacy & Terms, turn on Do Not Sell My Personal Information.3
This limits third parties from commercializing your information, but Consumer Reports says LG still collects information for its services, such as Live Plus and LG Channels. It's an extra step, not a replacement for withdrawing Viewing Information.3
- On supported models, use the hardware microphone switch to turn off the TV's built-in microphone.Hands-free voice control then stops. The remote's microphone still works if LG Voice Recognition is on and you press its button.1
LG says voice recognition is off by default and only works after you accept the Voice Information Agreement.1
What LG's ACR does
From LG's own statement.
How it identifies what you watch
ACR takes an audio fingerprint of what's playing, using the TV's internal audio processor. LG says it doesn't collect screenshots, screen or video recordings, voice recordings or other audio recordings.1
It works on Live TV, HDMI devices and LG Channels, not inside apps such as Netflix or YouTube.1
Ads are a second agreement
LG says it doesn't use ACR for interest-based ads unless you accept both the Viewing Information Agreement and the Interest-Based Cross Device Advertising Agreement. With ACR on, nearby Wi-Fi information may be used to estimate the TV's approximate location.1
Withdraw both to keep viewing data out of ads.
Questions people ask
Should I turn off Live Plus on my LG TV?
It's your choice. Live Plus makes program recommendations from what you watch, using ACR. Consumer Reports says opting out improves your privacy, and you'll get less targeted recommendations.3
Is my LG TV listening to my conversations?
LG says no: wake-word detection runs on the TV, and audio without the wake word is discarded, not stored or sent. Speech is only processed after the wake word or a press of the microphone button, in a session of about 18 seconds at most.1
What did the Texas agreement with LG change?
On 11 May 2026 the Texas Attorney General announced a settlement under which, the office says, LG will not use ACR to collect viewing data without informed consent, and will show a pop-up disclosure on its TVs with a simple way to opt out.4
