About
Turn Off Tracking gives plain, step-by-step guides to the settings that limit tracking on TVs, phones, computers and smart speakers, with notes on cars.
Who it's for
Anyone who has bought a device and wants to switch off the data collection they didn't ask for, without reading a privacy policy first. Each guide names the setting, gives the steps in order and says what turning it off does and doesn't change.
Who makes it
Turn Off Tracking is made by Secria, which makes Secria Mail and Secria VPN. We have a stake in the topic: people who want less tracking are also the people Secria hopes will use its email service and VPN. The guides describe settings, not products, and each page carries at most one short note about Secria. We aren't affiliated with any device maker or company named on this site, and their names belong to their owners.
How we check
Every settings step comes from the device maker's own help page, user agreement or privacy notice, or from a dated, independent test such as Consumer Reports'. Each guide names the page it was checked against and that page's date where it gives one, and every fact links to its source in the list at the foot of the page, with the date we read it.
When a maker's site refuses our reader or redirects visitors outside the US, we read the Internet Archive's copy and say so in the source. When we can't match a step to a source, we leave it out rather than guess. A second pass re-opens every source and checks each menu path and setting name against it.
Menus change with software updates. We re-check each guide after major releases from the maker and change the date when we do.
What this site is not
It isn't legal advice, and it doesn't cover every model a maker has sold. If your menu looks different, check the small print under the step: where the maker or Consumer Reports gives an older menu path, we list it there.
